How to Become Involved in Helping Scranton This Holiday Season

The holiday season represents a critical time for Pennsylvania residents to make an effort to help the less fortunate and others in need in Scranton, Pittston, Towanda and other communities throughout the state.

At O'Malley & Langan, our experienced workers' compensation attorneys understand the importance Scranton's charities play in improving quality of life for families throughout Pennsylvania. In our recent video blog, "You Be the Judge," we spotlight a number of local organizations and, more importantly, how to become involved this holiday season.

Attorney Todd O'Malley recently invited officials from a number of area organizations to be part of a special holiday edition of the firm's "You Be the Judge" video blog. The show's guests included representatives from the Employment Opportunity & Training Center and Marley's Mission (EOTC), a pair of local organizations promoting community engagement in Pennsylvania.

Thom Welby, a staff member for State Rep. Marty Flynn, stressed the importance of the EOTC's programs during the holiday season. In addition to hosting a recent holiday party for people in need that attracted close to 400 people, the EOTC recently gave away more than 100 bicycles and hundreds of other toys for children across the area.

The EOTC, which promotes family stability and economic self-sufficiency, plays a critical role during the holiday season. For many people throughout Pennsylvania, unemployment benefits and food stamp benefits run out on December 28. In addition to accepting donations such as old toys and books, the organization offers welfare-to-work programs, displaced worker training and assistance to unemployed workers of all backgrounds.

Marley's Mission, based in Scranton, is an organization dedicated to helping children who experienced trauma. With a dedicated treatment team trained using the Equine-Assisted Therapy Model, the nonprofit organization provides equine-based therapy to children free-of-charge.

The blog also mentions organizations dedicated to helping animals throughout central Pennsylvania, such as the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, One Life to Live and Indraloka Animal Sanctuary.

However, during this holiday season, it's critical for all Pennsylvania residents to bear in mind the importance of contributing to such organizations. That way, families and children across Pennsylvania get the help they need and deserve.
