The attorneys and
staff at O’Malley & Langan offer support, food
and supplies to striking workers. We write letters to
the media and do whatever we can to help local workers
get the fair treatment they deserve.
Whether it includes
taking a public stand against an unfair employer,
or speaking publicly on the rights of injured workers,
O’Malley & Langan has a strong community
voice. Our attorneys have fostered great relationships
with local organizations and unions, and we feel
that our involvement truly makes a difference. The
concept of “Community Service” and working
with Charitable Organizations at O’Malley
& Langan comes as a normal and almost daily practice.
Each year, the firm
raises over $5,000 for the Bill Bursis Foundation,
an organization that hands over the donations to
the Miami Project for Spinal Cord Research. Attorney
Todd J. O’Malley was a founding board member
of the Bill Bursis Foundation, which has raised
over $340,000 in the last 8 years. The foundation
is affiliated with the Miami Project and all funds
raised are used for research in spinal cord injuries.
In terms of Community
Service, our proudest accomplishment at O’Malley
& Langan is the “Kids are Special”
program, which we developed in 1995. Through this
program our staff goes the extra mile to provide
a safe and secure environment for the children of
our community. Our Kids are Special program is a
privately funded service devoted to ensuring the
safety of children through an accurate means of
identification. Our staff attends local schools,
carnivals, picnics and social events throughout
the year, offering free fingerprinting and photographing
to children of all ages. Since the inception of
the Kids are Special program, over 5,000 children
in our community have taken advantage of the service.
Another event that
is close to the firm’s heart is the “Relay
for Life.” We have been active with this event
since its inception in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
We have raised in excess of $25,000.00. This is
a 24-hour relay event that is sponsored by the American
Cancer Society. With the large extended family at
O’Malley & Langan, cancer has “disrupted”
the lives of many family and friends. With the dedication
and cooperation of our staff and local business
members, we raised over $8,000.00 in 2004 through
fund-raising events, donations and employee contributions.
Each year during
the holiday season, O’Malley & Langan
does their part to brighten the lives of our disadvantaged
clients. Our staff volunteers and purchases items
for Thanksgiving meal baskets that are handed out
to local families that may not be able to afford
Thanksgiving dinner. For Christmas, the office organizes
a children’s holiday party that includes entertainment,
food and a picture with Santa. We invite the children
and grandchildren of our clients to ensure that
the disadvantaged are able to enjoy the holiday
season. Each year, this event gets larger.
The firm also takes
part in other various worthwhile community events.
The “Race for the Cure” and “Denim
Day”, both benefit breast cancer research,
events that are on our yearly calendar. In 2002,
a new event was added to the charities we support
– the “Buddy Walk.” The Buddy
Walk is a fundraiser for the National Down Syndrome
Association. We had a team of employees participate
in the walk and make contributions to the local
Buddy Walk that was organized by one of our employees,
Sara Wolff. Sara received the award “National
Down Syndrome Young Woman of the Year”, a
source of great pride for all of her friends and
family at O’Malley & Langan.
On more of an entertaining
aspect of community service, O’Malley &
Langan enters a float in one of the largest Saint
Patrick’s Day Parades in the nation, right
in their own neighborhood, Scranton, Pennsylvania.
2004’s entry included over 10,000 fresh flowers,
an Irish castle, and lots of lads and lassies from
Ireland.
Being active in,
and placing high standards on, community service
is just one more contribution that the law offices
of O’Malley & Langan make to Northeastern
and Central Pennsylvania.
